Brazil ready to broker negotiations with Russia & end Ukraine war, says Jair Bolsonaro

“We have tried to avoid blocking the channels of dialogue caused by the polarization around the conflict,” Bolsonaro said, addressing the UN General Assembly.

Brazil’s President Jair Bolsonaro on Tuesday said that Brazil is willing to broker negotiations for a truce between Russia and Ukraine and find a resolution to seven months long military conflict. Bolsonaro pressed for urgency for a ceasefire between two warring nations. He also denounced West's coordinated sanctions and  economic isolation of its ally Moscow. Brazil's far-right leer, who will appear for reelection next month, also used UNGA speech to highlight merits of his governance. 

“We have tried to avoid blocking channels of dialogue caused by polarization around conflict,” Bolsonaro said, dressing  UN General Assembly. “ consequences of conflict are alrey being felt in world prices for food, fuel and or supplies. This impact puts us all against goals of sustainable development.”

Brazil looks to step up bilateral tre with Russia

Brazilian President Bolsonaro, who has refrained from publicly condemning Russian military intervention in Ukraine h departed to meet with President Vlimir Putin just weeks after he launched Ukraine's invasion despite warnings from US.  Bolsonaro h held at least two meetings with Russia's Putin. visit of Bolsonaro, his ministration argued, was planned way ahe of Ukrainian crisis. Bolsonaro has been mulling ramping up bilateral tre with Russia, a key source of fertilizers for South America's agriculture powerhouse.  President of Brazil on one or occasion criticised  West's penalties against Russian Federation, stressing that sanctions "did not work" and inste h faltered. 

During his speech at United Nations General Assembly which was focused on tre and economy, Bolsonaro reminded about generous welfare program that his ministration distributed to millions of Brazilians during COVID-19 pandemic. scheme was renewed until late December to alleviate financial crisis for Brazilian families. Bolsonaro also hailed his country's commitments to reduce carbon footprint, saying that those countries that were once leers in low carbon emissions h now turned to more polluting sources of energy.

“In spite of global crisis, Brazil reached end of 2022 with an economy in full recovery,” Bolsonaro told UNGA, ding that unemployment rate and inflation rate in Latin America’s largest nation was slumping.
