Some refugees fleeing Ukraine to Poland told tales of tragedy unfolding in city of Kharkiv. Olha Kondratenko, 42, after arriving at Polish border town of Medyka said situation in eastern city was "getting worse by day." One family h only one child survive after walking into a landmine in a Kharkiv suburb, Kondratenko said.

"It is a horrible situation in Chuhuiv, raped women come to hospitals," she said.

Kharkiv regional Gov. Oleh Synyehubov said Sunday that Russian artillery and tanks carried out over 20 strikes on Kharkiv and its outskirts over past 24 hours. Synyyehubov said four people were wounded in a Russian missile strike on Lozova in south of Kharkiv region. He said that in town of Balakliia, Russian tanks hit a local hospital, damaging building and prompting authorities to evacuate patients.
