Ukraine MP welcomes sanctions on Russian banks; calls for unity against 'terrorist nation'

Ukrainian journalist Dmytro Kashuba however stated that many scenarios of US sanctions have been carefully calculated by Russia they are prepared for the same.

After United States President Joe Biden anunced heavy financial sanctions against Russian banks and oligarchs on Tuesday, declaring that Moscow had flagrantly violated international law by invading Ukraine, move was greeted by Ukrainian Parliament which also decided to impose sanctions on institutions mentioned in Biden's address.

"We in Ukraine greet se sanctions. Today Ukrainian Parliament and President will also impose sanctions on all those people mentioned by Joe Biden. Ukraine does t have much influence in ecomic sphere but in any way, we have to work to hold hands with our Western partners," said Ukraine MP Sophia Fedyna.

" main point is to unite all democratic countries that understand how important it is to intervene in such matters and how important is it to be united to stand for peace and security against Moscow Federation as a terrorist country today," she stressed.

Earlier in day, US anunced its first tranche of sanctions targetting Russian banks and sovereign debt.  sanctions include “full blocking” of two Russian banks, including large financial institution VEB, and preventing Russia from accessing Western financial capital and markets for its sovereign debt.  US will also implement penalties against “Russian elites and ir family members” beginning Wednesday.

It is t just  Moscow-Ukrainian conflict: Fedyna

Sophia Fedyna hailed move to impose sanctions on those in 'closest surrounding' of Russian President Vladimir Putin. "We kw that y are patriots of Putin and Moscow Federation. But all ir elite children study in US and UK and or European countries. All ir bank accounts are in EU countries. I think this part of sanction pack is going to be a good start," she said.

"What I also liked from this Biden's address is that he stressed how Moscow threatens right of Ukraine for its existence. For many years of war, re was a discussion that it is only "Moscow-Ukrainian conflict". It is t. Moscow Federation does t need Ukraine at all as a democratic country and by fighting with us, Moscow threatens democracy and peace in all democratic world," Fedyna remarked.

In his address, Biden said he was also moving additional US troops to Baltic states on NATO's eastern flank bordering Russia to strengn ir defence against Moscow.

"We welcome position of Joe Biden in strengning our Baltic partners - countries of post-Soviet era. But se nations understand danger from Moscow Federations and y are playing an important role in countering international propaganda of Vladimir Putin," Ukraine MP told Republic.

'Putin's only chance to attack Ukraine before his Presidentship ends'

Meanwhile, Dmytro Kashuba, a Ukrainian journalist reporting from ground zero highlighted that many scenarios of sanctions have been carefully calculated by Russians and y are prepared for same.

" people of Ukraine believe that Russians are t afraid of sanctions. We understand that this is last chance for Putin to attack Ukraine because his Presidentship is expiring. So we kw that his motto is very clear. He will continue to move forward. se sanctions might work better if y are more aggressive. This is what Ukrainians are waiting to see," said Kashuba adding that military is certain of an impending attack from East as well as rth.
