Zelenskyy hosts US Senate delegation amid conflict; asks for more sanctions against Russia

On Saturday, a delegation from the United States Congress' upper chamber visited Ukraine to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

On May 14, a delegation from United States Congress' upper chamber visited Ukraine to meet Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. delegations were led by Minority Leer Mitchell McConnell. President Zelenskyy received delegation and stated that US Congress and American people have shown strong bipartisan support for Ukraine. Zelenskyy also stated that Ukraine is currently fighting Russian inver, protecting not only its state but also democratic principles and freedoms, as well as right of people to freely select ir own future. He also asked for more sanctions against Russian Federation stating that it is important to put pressure on aggressor.

Zelenskyy furr said, " visit of U.S. Senate delegation led by Republican minority leer to Upper House of Congress, Mitchell McConnell, is a powerful signal of bipartisan support for Ukraine from United States Congress and American people. Thank you for your leership in helping us fight not only for our country but for democratic values and freedoms. We do appreciate it very much."

Russia is perpetrating genocide on people of Ukraine: Zelenskyy

Ukraine President went on to say that Russia is perpetrating genocide on people of Ukraine and that y have committed crimes like torture, mass killings, and rape amongst or atrocities that alarm entire globe. He furr claimed that such crimes have not been seen in Europe since World War II. Zelenskyy also emphasised United States' unique role in strengning sanctions pressure on Russia. In particular, he stressed option by United States Congress of laws banning import of Russian oil and suspension of tre relations with Russia and Belarus. He believes that increasing sanctions pressure on aggressor country is important, according to official website of President of Ukraine.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy furr stated that y feel that Russia should be designated as a state supporter of terrorism. President expressed gratitude to US for its leership in assisting Ukraine. He also expressed hope that US Senate would quickly opt a package of ditional funding for Ukrainian people, which h alrey been examined in House of Representatives and h been expanded from $ 33 billion to $ 39.6 billion.
