Russian defence ministry declares coronavirus vaccine safe; volunteers discharged

Russian Defence Ministry said that it had successfully conducted a 'safe' clinical trial of the coronavirus vaccine that it had developed with NRCEM.

Russian Defence Ministry on July 15 said that it h successfully conducted a 'safe' clinical trial of coronavirus vaccine that it h developed toger with National research center for epidemiology and microbiology.

According to ministry's official website, clinical trials were successfully conducted on a group of 18 volunteers, who were discharged today from branch of Main Military Clinical Hospital named after Burdenko. volunteers underwent a control examination and passed a blood test to study development of an immune response before y were discharged.

"During tests, volunteers were under constant supervision of medical specialists of Main Military Clinical Hospital named after Burdenko, who conducted daily examinations of volunteers, measured blood pressure, pulse rate, body temperature, studied condition of mucous membranes, skin integuments and or indicators, carried out whole range of laboratory and instrumental studies provided by test protocol and necessary to study intensity of immune response," ministry said in a release on Wednesday.

ministry furr ded that available laboratory and instrumental studies allow m to confirm 'safety' and 'good tolerance' of potential vaccine.

test participants will have to report back to hospital on 42nd day of first vaccination, where y will undergo a final medical examination and diagsis for one day and necessary documents will be prepared. However, ministry in its release did t talk about effectiveness of vaccine.

Video conferencing with Putin

Russian Defence Minister Gen. Sergei Shoigu during a video conference with President Vlimir Putin on May 26 h informed him about development of a vaccine by Russian Armed Forces toger with scientists at Gamaleya Institute in Moscow. Russian health ministry on June 16 issued a permit to conduct clinical trials of vaccine on volunteers at Burdenko main military clinical hospital.
