The Republic of San Marino received 7,500 doses of the Russian vaccine Sputnik V on Tuesday, the Republic's State Congress said in a statement.
San Marino has not yet started its vaccination campaign, despite the agreement with the Italian government to receive some of the doses shipped to Italy.
The Secretary of State said the cooperation with Italy was excellent and that there was no geopolitical motivation behind the choice of approving the Sputnik V vaccine.
The Russian vaccine will cover around 15% of the population.
The Ministry of Health approved the vaccine before an eventual green light from the European regulatory body and the Italian Medicines Agency.
