A Samsung device sent into the stratosphere to take space-themed selfies has apparently made a dramatic return to Earth. On Sunday it crash-landed on a Michigan farm, leaving the owners of the property shocked.

Space equipment falls on Earth

The owners of the farm, old couple Nancy Welke and her husband Dan, were letting their horses out when the device crash-landed. The couple heard a loud crash at around 8:45am, only to find a space equipment in the backyard. Initially, the space equipment was vibrating and making a sound. The couple found out that the equipment was apparently designed by the Samsung company from the logo of the company on the crashed apparatus.

Samsung’s SpaceSelfie mission

The ‘SpaceSelfie’ satellite was launched by Samsung Electronics to send a selfie into space. A press release by Samsung read, “Samsung Electronics today unveiled the world's first selfie sent to space, captured by actor, model, and philanthropist Cara Delevingne and shown for the first time during a celebrity-filled event at the newly-opened Samsung KX experience space.
It further said, "The selfie is the first of many that Samsung will lift into the stratosphere this month as part of SpaceSelfie, a mission to give everyone the chance to get their face in space”.

The program was launched last week. Under this new initiative, people could upload their selfies on Samsung's 'Mission Control' website and get a chance to see them displayed on the screen of a Galaxy S10 on board the balloon.

The dilemma surrounding the space device

It remains unclear whether the ‘SpaceSelfie’ equipment that fell on Welke’s property belongs to the Samsung mission or not. The equipment landed with the help of a parachute. It is reported that a part of the device was tangled in between the power lines, which led to the fall. Samsung will send its officials to collect the device from the elderly couple.
