Saudi Arabia urges maximum pressure on Iran, removal of financial aid

Saudi Arabia urged the world to apply maximum pressure on Iran and to remove any financial assistance to it. Iran meanwhile insisted a policy like that did not work and it will kill any chances of peaceful negotiations. The growing tension at the Gulf was the focal point of the United Nations General Assembly debates on September 26. The world leaders present over there have hopes for their nations, expressing their fears for the world and coming face to face with their rivals resolving matters central to them. Another confrontation that is expected at the UNGA is of India and Pakistan on September 27 morning.

Saudi wants 'utmost pressure'

While addressing at the UNGA, the Foreign Minister of Saudi, Ibrahim al-Assaf pointed fingers at Iran for the missile attack on Saudi's oil infrastructure on September 14. The attack was responsible to put a hold on over 5% of oil production in the world. “We have known that regime for 40 years. It is good at nothing but masterminding explosions, destruction and assassinations, not only in our region but also throughout the world,” al-Assaf said. “Utmost pressure with every tool available should be applied to end the terrorist and aggressive conduct of the Iranian regime”. He also said that stopping any kind of financial help to Iran would be the befitting way to deal with the situation.

Iran's Rouhani says Saudi is making peace talks chances difficult

Saudi Arabia, again and again, claimed that weapons from Iran were used in the attack on its oil industries. It also invited the UN investigators to examine from where the missiles were probably launched. Countries like the US, France, England and Germany have come out in support of Saudi Arabia by blaming Iran for the attack. Iran, who is accused by its rival for spreading terror, denied any allegations. The Iranian President Hassan Rouhani while speaking at the UN said that the actions of Saudi are making chances peaceful negotiations really tough. While speaking to media after addressing the UNGA, Rouhani said, “Cease this policy of maximum pressure and pursue a policy of dialogue and logic and reason.” He blamed the US for using “more pressure aimed at reaching discussions, which is the same thing that is taking them farther and farther away from discussions and negotiations”.
