German Interior Minister Horst Seehofer and European Commission Vice President Margaritis Schinas said Friday the EU will present a second pact on migration and asylum at the end of this month.
Schinas said the "clock has run out" on the absence of a cohesive policy across the 27-member bloc.

The announcement came following this week's fires at the overcrowded Moria migrant camp on the Greek island of Lesbos which have left thousands homeless.
"Back in 2016 we failed because a number of governments blocked a European agreement and these costs of non-Europe is now evident by the situation on Lesbos," Schnicas said.

Following the Moria fires, more than 400 unaccompanied children were taken to the Greek mainland.
Seehofer confirmed Germany would take in "about 150" of the minors, along with France, while other countries had agreed to accept a share.
