China joins COVAX but experts doubt its ability to produce enough doses for useful export

Scientists raised questions whether China will be able to produce enough COVID-19 vaccine doses even if the vaccine is ready by the end of the year

As list of countries with which China has promised to share its Coronavirus vaccines continues to grow, scientists raised questions on wher it will be able to produce eugh doses even if vaccine is rey soon. China on Sunday, October 11, anunced that it is joining Covid-19 vaccine alliance kwn as COVAX and country has signed an agreement with GAVI, co-leer of alliance, according to reports. So far China has four coronavirus vaccine candidates in st 3 clinical trials.

According to an official with Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), an effective coronavirus vaccine may be available by end of year. Foreign ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said that China has joined  GAVI alliance to ensure equitable distribution of vaccines.  country taking  concrete step to ensure equitable distribution of vaccines, especially to developing countries, and hope more capable countries will also join and support COVAX, she said, according to news ncy Associated Press.

COVAX alliance, toger with Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Invations and WHO, is aiming to provide 2 billion doses of vaccine to most vulnerable people in poor countries, report said. However, country’s drug regulator would need to wait until data proves that vaccines are safe and effective before granting m full approval.

Zheng Zhongwei, he of Chinese government’s COVID-19 vaccine task force said China will have capacity to produce 600 million vaccine doses by end of year, and one billion next year. ding furr Zhongwei said 1.4 billion people in country are unvaccinated and re would t be many doses left for export.

Besides mismatch of demand and supply ar problem of approval by World Health Organisation (WHO) and Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Invations (CEPI) continues. If China pledges doses of vaccines to rest of countries country needs approval by se organisations. Currently t one of four leing vaccine candidates from China are on list of vaccines supported by CEPI, according to reports.
