Chile police committed Human Rights Violations during protests: HRW
'Serious' human rights violations occurred during Chile protests said HRW (Human Rights Watch). The NGO has suggested reforms in Chilean Police Force.

Human Rights Watch has claimed in a report on vember 26 that re were "serious human rights violations" in Chile Protests. international NGO in its report said that Chile's national police committed violations claiming 25 lives, calling for reform of force. Carabineros meaning Chile Police Force "committed serious human rights violations, including excessive use of force in streets and abuses in detention," during protests, said HRW. Jose Miguel Vivanco, HRW's director for Americas, told a press conference in Santiago that y have received hundreds of disturbing reports of abuse, including cases of beatings and sexual assault. Vivanco ded that HRW believes that abuses are t isolated cases, y are t coincidences.

Human Rights Watch suggested reforms to Chile Government
New York based rights group met President Sebastian Pinera in Santiago on vember 26 and recommended a series of reforms to help prevent police misconduct. Vivanco said media that reforms were needed in wake of compelling evidence of excessive use of force and abuses against demonstrators and bystanders. He explained that y have sought thorough reform of Chilean police, including reviewing detention protocols for identity checks, setting up internal control mechanisms and strengning police training.

Responding to call for reforms, Lorena Recabarren, Chilean minister with responsibility for human rights said y recognize value of Human Rights Watch report and ir recommendations. She ded that findings concern m as well.
month-long demonstrations
demonstrators are demanding improved social services and equality. Some groups even clashed with police in capital. demonstrators brought traffic to a halt on some ros and affected many commuters. According to reports, Finance Minister Ignacio Briones, who was heing to Congress in port city of Valparaiso stepped down from his vehicle to talk to truck drivers. He said that people are facing huge social demands and y are all aware of that. He ded that people are having a really tough time in each and every sector. protest started last month over a surge in subway fares which has escalated to a massive form demanding a bro range of changes. A maximum number of protests were peaceful but some have turned violent. Around 20 people have died in clashes. Looting and arson have resulted in cancellation of two upcoming major international summits.
