9 Dead As Walkie-Talkies Used By Hezbollah Explode In Lebanon, Day After Wave Of Pagers Explosion

Beirut: In another wave of explosion that rocked Lebanon on Wednesday, several walkie-talkie devices reportedly used by Hezbollah exploded, resulting in the death of at least nine people including a child and injuring over 300 others. The fresh series of walkie-talkies explosions, which took part in Beirut, have jolted the nation a day after multiple pagers exploded killing around over 12 people. 

The explosions of communication devices are claimed to be used by Lebanon's Hezbollah group. 

As per reports, the hand-held walkie-talkies were purchased by Hezbollah five months ago, around the same time that the pagers were bought. Reportedly, one explosion in hand-held radios used by Hezbollah detonated at the site of a funeral for three Hezbollah members and a child killed in a pagers explosion.

The walkie-talkies also exploded inside two cars in the area, the media reports said. Hezbollah's Al Manar TV has also reported explosions in multiple areas of Lebanon.

Israel's spy agency Mossad is suspected to have planted explosives inside pagers imported by Hezbollah.

Death Toll Up In Pagers Explosion

Meanwhile, the death toll in pager attacks rose to 12, including two children, Lebanese Health Minister Firass Abiad said. Tuesday's attack wounded nearly 3,000 people, including many of the militant group's fighters and Iran's envoy to Beirut.

A Taiwanese pager maker Gold Apollo said that the devices were manufactured by a Hungary-based company called BAC and denied that it had produced the pager.

Hezbollah has vowed to retaliate against Israel, whose military declined to comment on the blasts. The two sides have been engaged in cross-border warfare since the Gaza conflict erupted last October, fuelling fears of a wider Middle East conflict that could drag in the United States and Iran.
