Singapore: Woman who got drunk and bit a cop gets 6 months jail

A woman from New Zealand has been sentenced to jail for six and a half months in Singapore after she bit a female police officer's arm in a drunk state.

A woman from New Zealand has been sentenced to jail in Singapore after she bit a female cop's arm in a drunk state, according to foreign media reports. The woman named Katie Christina Rakich came to Singapore in the month of June this year according to court documents. She was already drunk at that time when she, her younger sister, and sister's boyfriend went out to have dinner on the night of the incident. The three went to another bar where she allegedly had more to drink, following which they returned to the sister's apartment. Rakich who was clearly under the influence of alcohol became rowdy and started screaming, creating a nuisance. Her sister who works as a teacher in a Singapore school had to then call the local police. The woman was arrested on the spot and taken to a police station.

Sentenced to six months in jail

When the woman was being taken out of the police car, she suddenly bit the left arm of a female police officer who was with her. The prosecutor told the court that the bite was dangerous and forceful which caused great injury to the victim. Benedict Teong then told the court that she had let the victim go only after another officer got involved. Teong further added that after she bit the officer, her mouth had blood on it and after some time the woman even punched another female cop in the ear. The lady officer who suffered a serious injury due to the bite was treated at a hospital. Tetanus and hepatitis shorts which were to the victim which adds acts as a precautionary drug to prevent any probability of HIV. The accused was sentenced to jail for six and a half months. She had been jailed on October 14 after pleading guilty to causing serious injury to a government servant. The defence lawyer said that since she has been in custody ever since the incident occurred, she is eligible for a one-third reduction in her prison sentence which may bring down her term to four months.
