Singapore to start 'cruise to nowhere'; all about leisure travel opportunity amid COVID-19

Singapore government hired a Norway-based risk management company DNV GL AS  to make the travel safe for the short sailing trips into international waters.

Singapore Tourism Board (STB) is working on protocols to launch "cruise to where” to begin operating in seas for oceanic lovers and travellers, in line with airplanes’ recent ‘flights to where’ initiative started by Qantas for globe trotters. government hired a rway-based risk manment company DNV GL AS  to make travel safe for short sailing trips into international waters that would be for a night or two, destination being same port where it left. However, according to sources of straits times, vessels are dealing with mounting fears of COVID-19 outbreaks as being initial contributors of pandemic infections when virus hit, such as Diamond Princess. 

While cruise operators would need to qualify for all safety protocols and achieve safety certifications from law that allows up 50 percent capacity, authorities are still working on a safety framework to allow leisure travel to operate. Earlier this week, Singapore Airlines cancelled its plans of flights to where citing environmental pollution and fuel consumption concerns and resort to installing a restaurant on Airbus A380 jetliner inste.

In a paper accessed by  Straits Times, company designed a framework for n-compliance with safety measures and a complete certification programme for cruise docked at ports since March in an attempt to revive tourism for its struggling ecomy. In a statement to daily, Singapore’s tourism board said that it was reviewing measures and protocols to make experience safe for passengers during pandemic. It said that details around hygiene requirements will be anunced later. 

CDC denies permission to cruise industry

Meanwhile, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in US denied permission to cruise industry to restart ‘leisure sails’ in ocean and extended a -sail ban in US by a month. Rachel Loh, STB's regional director told sources of America’s Post that anuncement will be me in weeks ahe. Furr, report revealed that rwegian and Celebrity cruise lines both of which operate in Singapore will be docked until month’s end, Princess Cruises, on or hand, have permission to sail until mid-December.
