Sinopharm's COVID-19 vaccine approved by Peru, Morocco for phase III trials

Human clinical trials of Sinopharm will include 6,000 volunteers to test the efficacy of potential vaccine and get regulatory approvals basis the results.

On August 19, Peru and Morocco approved Phase III clinical trials of Sipharm's COVID-19 vaccine, world’s first inactivated vaccine manufactured by China National Biotec Group (CNBG), company anunced on social media. human clinical trials will include 6,000 volunteers to test efficacy of potential vaccine and get regulatory approvals basis results. China National Biotec Group (CNBG), a unit of state-owned pharmaceutical giant China National Pharmaceutical Group (Sipharm) has alrey recruited over 15,000 people across 107 nationalities in UAE and Abu Dhabi to get phase III trials started. 

According to UAE’s state media’s press release, Sipharm's vaccine has been developed by G42 Healthcare in partnership with UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP), Department of Health - Abu Dhabi, and Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA). Volunteers have been ministered with two vaccine shots as healthcare continues to monitor ir safety and conducts health checks to ensure side effects. Lunched on 16th July in Abu Dhabi, #4Humanity trials has h full co-operation from UAE’s multinational population “er to help” UAE leership’s commitment to combat COVID-19  via global collaborative effort.

"Securing this milestone is a testament to commitment and partnership of relevant authorities working toger to conduct largest possible number of medical tests and providing necessary care for those infected, while simultaneously strengning UAE’s cooperation with international partners to develop a safe vaccine against disease,” Minister of Health and Prevention, Abdul Rahman bin Mohammed Al Owais said. He ded, "This is a very proud day for everyone associated with se trials and we are looking forward to continuing to play an integral role in work to come in months ahe.”Chairman of Department of Health , Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Hamed, as first volunteer to participate in trials as he received 2 shots of experimental vaccine.

UAE Principal Investigator, Sheikh Khalifa Medical City CMO and Chairperson of National COVID-19 Clinical Manment Committee Dr. Nawal Ahmed Alkaabi said in press release, "This is a wonderful achievement and importance to get involved in se clinical trials has captured imagination of nation and 15,000 volunteers who have stepped up to participate.” Furr he ded, “Once again it goes to show passion and commitment of everyone living and working here in UAE to play ir part for good of humanity.”President of Sipharm Group Biological Products, Jingjin Zhu, was quoted saying that speed of se trials to date and  diversity of volunteers has fully reinforced company's decision that UAE was a perfect location to test inactivated vaccine. Furr he stressed, with nations joining in, vaccine is rey to reach widest demographic and ethnic range of volunteers.
