South Korea proposes to meet North Korea on shuttered tourist project

South Korea suggested a meeting with North Korea on Sunday in relation to the Diamond Mountain Resort project dating all the way back to the year 1998.

South Korea suggested a meeting with rth Korea on Sunday in relation to a long-shuttered joint tourist project at a scenic rth Korean mountain as relations between both countries have been cool over a case of nuclear diplomacy. On Monday, South Korea sent a proposal seeking a meeting between officials of both countries to talk about project alongside rth Korea's push to demolish South Korean facilities at Diamond Mountain resort with a justification that y were shabby and t pleasant to look at. South Korean representative Lee Sang-min, however, said that his country h t given a set date and a location for concerned meeting.

'A necessary meeting'

Lee ded that South Korea thought it was necessary to have a meeting with rth Korea to discuss pressing matter and furr ded that a Unilateral action by rth Korea could cause dam to diplomatic relations between both countries and hurt public sentiments in South Korea.

Tours by South Korea to Diamond mountain started in year 1998, providing a source of foreign currency to rth. mountain was also one of very few places that South h access to. tourist project was stopped in year 2008 after a rth Korean soldier shot a South Korean tourist, who according to officials h entered into a restricted area.

Although, rth Korea is seeking to restart project since it entered a st of nuclear diplomacy with Seoul in 2018 but South cant restart tourist project while international sanctions are still prevalent in relation to rth Korea's nuclear program.

According to some experts, Pyongyang's threat to demolish facilities built by South Korea such as hotels, spas and restaurants might be rth's way of venting out ir frustration at sanctions imposed on m and an attempt to make Seoul resume tours.
