How does lightning on volcano occur?

Magma, subterranean predecessor to lava, can form in a variety of ways, according to Forbes.  Pockets of magma exist deep within Earth’s mantle, which originated from  Earth's liquid outer core. When a liquid rock has been heated to thousands of degrees, it makes upwards to crust.

At this time, it can erupt through to surface at a few select weak points.  According to news reports, when this happens, not only lava emerges but has been accompanied by large amounts of soot and ash. Sometimes, it results in lightning.
