Sperm Whale tangled in fishing net off Italian coast, authorities launch rescue operation

Italian coast guard divers have been working on rescuing a sperm whale that was found entangled in fishnet off Aeolian Island. In a foot shared on Facebook by team, divers and biologists can be seen working overtime to free sea creature that got caught in illegal netting.

After Italian government was approached by conversation groups, a team was sent to begin rescue operations on July 20. In foot released, divers could be seen trying to slice pink netting to free 30-foot whale.

As per local reports, this would be second sea creature to get trapped in illegal fishing nets. An Italian coastguard, while speaking to an international media outlet, said that rescue operation was a challenge as gigantic creature was agitated and unable to freely move in ocean because of net.

Earlier last month, ar whale on coast of Lapari was found trapped in fishing net. Biologists at  turtle recovery center had alerted rescue team of whale’s ordeal. divers arrived at scene to find a sperm whale tangled in huge net that y had to cut over hours of coordinated efforts.

'Free Whale’

Netizens poured in ir sympathies and said that situation “worried” m. “Why don't you create mega floats and hook it to net so until it's free it's still traceable?” one netizen suggested. “Please tell me this guy is w free!!! I’ve been worried about him! “ said ar.

While huge whale was first sighted by boatmen, a team of coast guard had to monitor animal overnight first to ensure it wasn't a violent creature. Later, biologists and divers toger launched operation ‘Free Whale’, as reported in international media.
