Spotify to suspend political advertising in 2020 ahead of US elections

Online music streaming platform Spotify stated that it will suspend political advertisements on its platform from early 2020 ahead of US presidential elections.

Online music streaming platform Spotify stated that it will suspend political vertisements on its platform from early 2020. According to reports, Spotify is latest online company to take such a decision to suspend false information before US 2020 Presidential elections. Sweden based company has a lot of users in United States and it has followed in footsteps of Twitter who took decision to ban majority of political s and Google who decided to put a limit on how vertisements were targeted.

While talking to an international media outlet, a representative of Spotify said that online platform will suspend all selling of vertising of a political nature, ding that suspension will also include political vertising content in ir -supported tier and also in Spotify original. representative furr ded that currently, y did t have means to properly check and filter out content, ding that company will review ir decision as y continue to grow.

According to reports, it is t kwn how much Spotify earns from political vertisements but a few experts are of opinion that online platform is perfect way to reach young voters. Online platforms have been under pressure to restrict flow of false information coming from politicians, with most table example being US President Donald Trump ahe of 2020 Presidential elections.

Instagram expands fact-checking program

Instagram recently expanded its fact-checking program around world. Instagram is w letting fact-checking organisations globally to evaluate and estimate nature and quality of misinformation on platform. Starting from May this year, social networking company started working with third-party fact-checkers in United States to help identify, review and label false information. Instagram said that se partners independently assess false information and minimise spreing of disinformation.

Instagram said when content has been rated as false or partly false by a third-party fact-checker, it reduced such content from spreing on platform by removing it from Explore and hashtag ps. In dition, Instagram said such content will be labelled so users could decide for mselves wher y want to re, trust or share.
