Nepal: Students protest against govt over corruption, 'inefficiency' in handling outbreak

Widespread protests took place in the capital city of Nepal, Kathmandu on June 15 against the ruling government as the students demanded an end to corruption.

Widespre protests took place in capital city of Nepal, Kathmandu on June 15 against ruling government as students demanded an end to corruption and criticised government for its lack of inefficiency in tackling COVID-19 crisis. According to reports, scores of students std a protest highlighting  corrupt practices of KP Sharma Oli-led government and demanded strict action in such cases.

'Inefficiency' in handling COVID crisis

students reportedly criticised government for t taking proper preventive measures to deal with coronavirus crisis and ded that re was a "lack of support and initiatives" from government to local businesses who h a tough time and were bly affected due to COVID-19 crisis. As per reports, around 500 students demonstrated at Baneshwor in Kathmandu, demanding that  government should take proper steps to contain spre of virus.

Protesters held banners that re "Eugh is eugh", demanded more testing and condemned alleged corruption by officials in purchase of equipment and testing kits. Earlier this week, police fired tear gas and water cann to break up a protest near a ro leing to prime minister's office.

According to health ministry of Nepal, country has a total of 5,335 cases and 18 fatalities.
