Sun Weidong, Chinese envoy: "China and India should help each other"

Commenting on the second India-China informal summit at Mamallapuram, Sun Weidong, the Chinese envoy to India stated that both countries should help each other achieve their respective goals. According to him, Chinese President Xi Jinping said that the dragon and elephant dance together was the only correct choice for the two nations. Weidong also hoped for the rejuvenation of the ancient civilization of India and China.

Earlier, the Chinese Ambassador to India observed that Chinese President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Narendra Modi had exchanged views on long-term and strategic regional and international issues. He opined that both leaders agreed to further bilateral ties.

The informal summit
PM Modi hosted the Chinese President Xi Jinping for the second informal summit after Wuhan at Mamallapuram in Tamil Nadu from Friday. On the first day, both leaders held five hours of discussions apart from exploring the historic seaport. In the meeting, they spoke about issues related to terrorism and radicalization and tried to identify potential areas for investment. Saturday morning was marked by PM Modi’s one-on-one meeting with the Chinese President. This was followed by delegation-level talks where both the PM and Xi Jinping discussed ways to further the India-China relationship. Thereafter, the PM gifted a special handloom sari to the Chinese President. Subsequently, Xi Jinping departed for a two-day visit to Nepal from the Chennai International Airport.
