Amid ongoing protests in Belarus, country’s opposition leer Sviatlana Tsikhauskaya will reportedly dress United Nations Security Council on September 4, Friday. Tsikhauskaya’s spokesman reportedly said that she will speak by a video link at invitation of Estonia, which is currently a n-permanent member of body. ditional information regarding what meeting is going to be about was revealed. 

As per reports, Tsikhauskaya was a presidential candidate in August 9 elections in Belarus which her supporters say she won. She fled to Lithuania immediately after election which President Alexander Lukashenko declared he h won a by a wide margin, triggering unrest in parts of country.

Lukashenko on August 10 secured a record sixth term as country's president after authorities anunced preliminary results in which 65-year-old former Soviet Army member allegedly secured over 80 per cent of total votes polled. Tsikhauskaya demand authorities to accept wrongdoing

Tsikhauskaya fled country for Lithuania on August 11, fearing that she or her family could be harmed. 37-year-old leer has been issuing video statements from Lithuania, demanding Belarusian authorities to accept ir wrongdoings and to join hands with opposition in order to eve punishment in future.  European Union and United States have also expressed concerns over recent developments in Belarus and have called on Lukashenko to respect rights of Belarusian people.

Meanwhile, Belarusian leer, in midst of protests, cracked down hard on news media on August 29. While United Nations condemned move, Lukashenko’s government t only deported some of foreign journalists but also withdrew accreditations of several ors who were reporting on anti-government protests prevailing in nation. Several international media outlets reported about ir journalists being deported from country.

United Nations spokesperson Stephane Dujarric reportedly said that UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has time and again called for journalists to be able to do ir job in an environment that is ‘free from harassment’.
