In a bid to dismiss Black Lives Matter rally in Sydney, police fired pepper spray on protesters amid clashes between both sides on June 6. Even though authorities h raised concerns over demonstrations being organised amid coronavirus outbreak and feared a surge in cases, at least 30,000 people reportedly flooded streets in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, elaide and Hobart to stand up in support of Indigeus Australians. While rally in New South Wales was granted official permission just last minute, thousands h assembled on streets. However, situation according to Australian media outlets, became intense when most of crowd was dismissed.
re were multiple ims and videos that were posted on various social media platforms, that showed police officers eir directing demonstrators on streets to subway station. Some of se posts were graphic and even revealed protesters removing pepper spray from ir eyes. According to reports, incidents that took place in Sydney were entirely opposite to demonstrations happening in or cities where authorities h praised organisers as well as people who showed up on streets.

Melbourne expected to fine protesters
Even though Victoria Police was majorly impressed with protesters at protests over racial discrimination, organisers are expecting to pay a penalty of $1,652 for violating guidelines put forth by chief health officer. Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison has previously even cautioned people against demonstrations citing fear of a surge in coronavirus cases in country.
According to him, people should find alternative ways to express anger which has been triggered by incident that took place in Minnesota, US on May 25 but has triggered protests across world. According to media reports, Morrison has said “ health vice is very clear” and ded that it is t recommended to go to se demonstrations. Australian PM urged citizens to find different “better way” to showcase sentiments and said, “let’s exercise our liberties responsibly”.
