Taiwan celebrates last day of Lunar New Year as lanterns light up the sky, watch video
Taiwan on Saturday celebrated the Chinese New Year by lighting up the sky in Taichung city with lanterns. Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-Wen lit the main lantern.

Taiwan on Saturday celebrated Chinese New Year by lighting up sky in Taichung city with lanterns. Tens and thousands of people released sky lanterns to celebrate final day of Lunar New Year, also kwn as Yuan Xiao. Even though Taiwan is t part of mainland China, many of Taiwanese people are from Han ethnic group and speak Mandarin. Taiwan celebrates festival quite extravagantly and according to legislation passed by Taiwanese government New year is a public holiday in Republic of China, commonly kwn as Taiwan.

Lunar New Year
On Saturday, following a festive show full of light, music, and colour, Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-Wen lit and released main lantern which is called Guardian of Forest - Tree of Light. lantern festival was launched by president in Taiwan's industrial city of Taichung. As per media reports, festival h been std in city for second time in five years and is also biggest ever spanning across 40 hectares.

festival saw a wide range of mes, including religion, railways, military, new immigrants, zodiac animals, and Jurassic Park and fireworks lit up sky at end of it. Guardian of Forest - Tree of Light was beautifully lit and was decorated with 22 light belts, each representing a city or country in Taiwan. Butterflies and Taiwan Sibias, a species of bird mainly found in country, were placed at treetop. As per reports, Lunar New Year in China is celebrated by dragon dance in rrn part of country and lion dance in south, while in Taiwan dragon of rth and lion of Canton are both used by local residents as many people came from different parts of mainland during early migration period in country.

China also celebrated New Year but celebrations across country were minimal as people re are still battling with dely outbreak of coronavirus. More than 900 people have lost ir lives so far in country and over 40,000 cases have been confirmed. contagious virus is believed to be even more dangerous than outbreak of SARS that h killed over 800 people in 2003.
