Thailand lawmakers called off the scheduled voting on six proposed amendments to the country’s military-backed constitution on Thursday, September 24.

Thailand lawmakers called off scheduled voting on six proposed amendments to country’s military-backed constitution on Thursday, September 24. Inste, Thai parliament has decided to set up a committee that will furr investigate se proposals and consider ir validity and feasibility. cancelled voting on amendments means at least a month's delay which will likely be extended even longer.

Protesters threaten fresh marches

As per reports, at least 1,000 protestors h gared outside Thai parliament building and as news broke out, many were found to be angry. protestors have me several demands such as reforms to country’s monarchy, limiting power of unelected officials as well as fresh elections. Following postponement of vote, protest leers have reportedly promised to hold more rallies next month if ir demands are t met by September 30.

Earlier this week, student protestors installed a plaque symbolising Thailand’s transition to democracy at Sanam Luang field near Grand Palace in Bangkok. As per reports, original plaque mysteriously vanished three years ago and re-installation of plaque marks protestors' vow to press for new elections and monarchy reforms.

As per reports, protestors' core demands are that current parliament is dissolved and a new constitution for country be drafted. protestors have accused  Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha of illegally dismissing democratically elected government in 2014 to take up power unfairly and also called for an end to intimidation tactics.

Thailand's ecomy was in a b condition even before COVID-19 pandemic forced world into lockdown.  student-led protests have brought out thousands of people to streets to demand change and reform, and even violent crackdown and arrests have failed to intimidate demonstrators.
