Thailand: Two bombs explode outside govt office in Yala province
In Thailand, two bombs exploded in front of a government office in the insurgency-hit southern Yala province. The bombs exploded on March 17 and injured 18.

In Thailand, two bombs exploded in front of a government office in insurgency-hit sourn Yala province. According to reports bombs which exploded on March 17, injured 18 people. explosions took place in front of Sourn Border Provinces ministrative Center (SBPAC). SBPAC is a Thai government body that oversees ministration of three provinces.

provinces that SBPAC oversees are Narathiwat, Pattani and Yala which are three mostly Malay-Muslim majority provinces. An ongoing insurgency in se provinces has killed some 7,000 people since 2004. Prior to explosions, SBPAC was hosting a government meeting regarding region’s response to coronavirus outbreak.

As per reports, Colonel Pramote Prom-in, a military regional security spokesman claimed that first explosion was from a hand grene that was thrown outside SBPAC office fence, explosion was meant to draw people out. second explosion came in form of a car bomb that was parked 10 metres from first explosion. This explosion was reportedly hidden in a pick-up truck that was parked near fence. second explosion took place roughly ten minutes after first explosion and among wounded were five reporters, five police officers, two soldiers, and or bystanders. As per reports, explosions injured 18 people.

An insurgency has been going on and off for deces as groups that form insurgency have demanded automy for Muslim majority region. A peace dialogue between Thai government and main insurgent group, Barisan Revolusi Nasional (BRN) is taking place again this year after group pulled out off peace process in 2014.
