Washington: Vice President Kamala Harris recalled the moment when she got the phone call from President Biden informing her of his decision to drop out of the race of white house.
In her first interview with US based media outlet CNN, since launching her presidential campaign for White House, Vice President Kamala Harris recounted the moment when she received the news that President Biden was withdrawing from the race.
‘Was at Home With Family… the Phone Rang’
Harris described the scene during her phone call with Biden that she was at home with her family, having just enjoyed pancakes and about to start a puzzle with her nieces when the call came in.
“I’ll share a bit more than you might expect,” Harris told in the interview. “My family was visiting, including my baby nieces, and we had just had pancakes. As we were about to begin a puzzle, the phone rang. It was Joe Biden, informing me of his decision.”
Biden also mentioned about his support for Harris's candidacy and made it clear he wanted her to be the Democratic nominee for the polls. Harris further elaborated about the moment that her initial reaction was a concern for Biden, rather than focusing on her own political future.
Biden had announced his decision to withdraw from the race, following intense scrutiny and criticism from Democrats after a poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump in late June.
After Biden's exit, he endorsed Harris, which helped her avoid a contested convention for the race. She immediately worked to consolidate support and secure the nomination.
