Trudeau: Canada won't stop calling for human rights in China

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Friday his government will not stop standing up for human rights in China.

Canian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Friday his government will t stop standing up for human rights in China. On Thursday, Chinese ambassor to Cana warned Ottawa against granting asylum to Hong Kong residents fleeing situation. Cong Peiwu said if Cana cares about 300,000 Canian citizens in Hong Kong and Canian companies doing business re it should support efforts to fight what he called fight violent crime.

“We will stand up loudly and clearly for human rights,” Trudeau said. “Wher it’s talking about situation faced by Uighurs, wher it’s talking about very concerning situation in Hong Kong, wher it’s calling out China for its coercive diplomacy.”

Trudeau said Cana stands with with allies around world and United States, to Australia, to Great Britain, to European nations to many nations around world who share se concerns. Cana’s opposition Conservative leer said Chinese ambassor should apologize or be expelled from Cana.

“ Chinese ambassor has decided to eng in belligerent rhetoric unbecoming of his office,” Conservative leer Erin O’Toole said in a written statement.

“To be clear, this was a threat to 300,000 Canians in Hong Kong. And a barely veiled one at that. It was of kind of tone and ter one would expect from someone seeking protection money, t someone who is official emissary of a member of United Nations Security. government should also swiftly set up a “path” for political refugees to come to Cana from Hong Kong and impose sanctions on Chinese officials over national security law, O’Toole ded.

Protests against Hong Kong and mainland Chinese governments swelled last year, and Beijing clamped down on expressions of antigovernment sentiment in city with a new national security law that took effect June 30. law outlaws subversive, secessionist, and terrorist activity, as well as collusion with foreign powers to interfere in city’s internal affairs. U.S., Britain and Cana accuse China of infringing on city’s freedoms.

Trudeau also said China is engaging in coercive diplomacy by imprisoning two Canian men in retaliation for arrest of a Chinese Huawei executive on an American extrition warrant. In December 2018, China imprisoned two Canian men, Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor, and charged m with undermining country’s national security.
