US President Donald Trump in a scathing letter to Director-General of World Health Organisation (WHO) highlighted health organisation's alleged 'failed response' in successfully tackling COVID-19 pandemic by calling out global organisation for its 'lack of independence' from People's Republic of China.
In a four-p letter, US reviewed organisation's handling of outbreak alleging that since December 2019, stating it h igred 'credible reports' and h 'failed to independently investigate m' due to ir affiliation with China. Trump warned m that if y didn't show 'substantive improvement' and 'independence' from China, US' temporary decision of halting funding to health organisation would become 'permanent'.

letter ded that WHO me repeated claims about virus that were 'grossly inaccurate and misleing', including mentioning at one point of time that 'human-to-human transmission does t occur in new strain of Coronavirus.' Trump in his letter also alleged that y took too long in declaring outbreak public health emergency of 'international concern.' "By time you declared virus a pandemic on 11 March 2020, it h killed more than 4000 people and infected 100,000 in over 114 countries," re letter.

While concluding letter Trump highlighted how same organisation h dealt with SARS outbreak under a different director-general with great efficiency. " only way forward for World Health Organisation is if it can actually demonstrate independence from China." Trump stated that if 'substantive improvement' was t seen in organisation in next 30 days n his temporary halting of funding, would become permanent'.

Even in past, Trump has t minced his words when it comes to expressing his feelings towards WHO. In his most recent comments, Trump called WHO, China's 'puppet'. His accusations come amid global pandemic, where Trump believes that WHO has been biased towards China. Last month, Trump h halted all US' funding to organisation accusing it to be 'China-centric'. A few days ago, China stated that y would provide USD 2 billion to World Health Organization over two years to fight coronavirus pandemic. However, White House has said that China's newly anunced funds its way to overwrite its failure in handling coronavirus outbreak.

WHO at World Health Assembly on Monday acceded to resolution signed by 123 members countries of WHO seeking an independent investigation into pandemic. This comes despite China voicing strong objection to resolution saying that it was 'premature' to launch a probe into origin of COVID-19. resolution has received overwhelming support from all member countries of European Union and 50 African nations, and also India
