About the 'Hornsea One' Project

Reports suggest the Windmill project, known as Hornsea One is located 120 kilometres from England's Yorkshire coast. Hornsea One will produce enough energy for 1 million UK houses with clean electricity upon its completion in 2020. The project covers an area which is bigger than the country of Maldives or Malta. It has 174 seven-megawatt wind turbines with towers that are approximately 100 meters tall and the blade spans an area bigger than London eye observation wheel.

A single rotation of one of the turbines can power an average-electricity consumption household for an entire day, as per Stefan Hoonings, who is a Senior Project manager at Orsted, the company behind the project.

Project a major step for the United Kingdom

The project will reportedly take the United Kingdom closer to achieving its target of attaining one-third of the country's electricity from wind by 2030. Around 77 countries declared at the summit to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to zero by the year 2050, but teen climate activist Greta Thunberg says that major polluters must do a lot more to mitigate rising temperatures. In Britain, three more stages of Hornsea project are planned.
