COVID-19: UK Health Secretary returns to work after recovery, sets aim of 100k tests a day
The UK's Health Secretary Matt Hancock, who was tested positive for COVID-19 and had been self-isolating, announced a new step-by-step plan to boost testing.

United Kingdom’s Health Secretary Matt Hancock, who was tested positive for coronavirus and h been self-isolating, returned to frontline and dressed daily briefing on April 2. Under a new step-by-step plan, Hancock set out government’s strategy boost testing for dely virus. While speaking at Downing Street, Hancock said that government’s new goal is to have 100,000 COVID-19 tests a day by end of this month.
minister said, “ rate of infection is currently believed to be doubling every three-four days”. He furr revealed a massive leap in country’s death toll as well, which rose by 569 taking total to 2,921. He said that he was back ‘redoubled’ in his determination to fight virus.

He also informed, “During last week we have completed a whole new hospital, NHS Nightingale Hospital in London, built in nine days. This has been an incredible achievement”.
Furrmore, he went on to explain a point-by-point plan to enhance testing capabilities to ensure that NHS staff are prioritised for process in order to be able to carry on ir work to fight against disease. He also anunced that 45 million pieces of Person Protective Equipment (PPE) were delivered across health services. He said that more than five million aprons, and nearly six million surgical masks were delivered.

He said, “Our ultimate goal is that anyone who needs a test shall have one”.
‘Landmark move’
Moreover, in a ‘landmark’ move, UK government also anunced that more than GBP 13 billion of debt accused by NHS will be wiped in a bid to enable health services to respond better to pandemic and also to ensure that it is better prepared in long-term. With that, Hancock also anunced that £300 million will be available for community pharmacies as government supports ir vital work of getting medicines to people across nation.

Meanwhile, in a bid to support ecomy, UK Finance Minister Rishi Sunak unveiled an ‘unprecedented’ w boost. As per reports, Sunak anunced that UK government will be paying 80 per cent of ws for employees who are t working. new measure is ‘first time in history’ that UK government will step in and pay people’s ws.
