First vaccinations in UK care homes and surgeries

Priority would go to people who are 80 and older, as well as staff and residents of care homes, it said.

Britain launched its vaccination program this month after becoming first country to give emergency approval to Pfizer-BioNtech vaccine, and authorities plan to dispense 800,000 doses in first phase.

Thousands of health service workers and vaccinators have alrey received shot.

In Scotland, elderly residents of nursing homes also started getting vaccine on Monday.
