Mayor of London Sadiq Khan attended Diwali celebrations at City Hall on October 24, and asked not to allow anybody to divide the communities of various faiths. Sadiq Khan took to Twitter to share the images of celebration saying it is a special time for Hindu, Sikh and Jain Londoners. “Its message of light triumphing over darkness brings people of all backgrounds and faiths together,” Khan wrote.
'Don’t allow anybody to try and divide'
The Diwali celebration at the city hall was hosted by Asian Media and Marketing Group (AMG) which organise Awards in the UK and worldwide. Apart from the mayor, the event was attended by deputy mayor Rajesh Agrawal, AMG's Kalpesh Solanki and Shailesh Solanki. During the celebrations, the dignitaries lit the lamp.
"We know there are some in our communities who seek to divide us and revel in different faiths hating each other. My message this Diwali - don’t allow anybody to try and divide us," said Khan while addressing the guests at the city hall.
“In a world where hate and division is on the rise, moments like Diwali brings people together. It is a celebration of the victory of good over evil, light over darkness and knowledge over ignorance,” said deputy mayor Rajesh Agrawal.
