London Mayor extends Diwali wishes; recalls inspiring Rama-Sita story

On the occasion of Diwali, Mayor of London Sadiq Khan took to Twitter and shared a heartwarming video wishing everyone celebrating festival across the world.

On occasion of Diwali, Mayor of London Sadiq Khan took to Twitter and shared a heartwarming video wishing everyone celebrating festival of lights across world. He also spoke about essence of festival. Stressing on mess of Diwali, he said that good will always prevail over evil, light over darkness and friendship over enmity.

In video, Mayor of London said, "Diwali is a joyous occasion. It is a special time to enjoy company of family, friends and loved ones. It is also a chance to recall inspiring story of Rama and Sita which teaches us all that light will always triumph over darkness and good over evil. At a time when people are trying to divide us and sow seeds of hatred, this mess is more important than ever. This Diwali, I want to pay tribute to invaluable contribution Londoners of Indian herit make to our city. London is a better, brighter and more successful place because of you and your community is an integral part of making London greatest city in world."

World leaders extended Diwali wishes

Prime Minister of United Kingdom and Leader of Conservative Party Boris Johnson on Sunday extended his wishes on occasion of Diwali. Taking to Twitter, Johnson posted a video with caption 'Shubh Diwali' (Happy Diwali), wishing citizens celebrating festival of lights. US President Donald Trump also extended his wishes. Taking to Twitter he said that he along with First Lady of United States Melania Trump are wishing those celebrating festival of lights. Trump also posted a video of him lighting diyas at White House along with group of Indian Americans. In video, Trump said: "As we light diya today, our relationship is strengned by sacred tradition. May this light bring hope to all and may everyone have a wonderful Diwali." Earlier, in a statement released by White House, Trump had said: "We pray that this year's observance brings love, joy, and eternal peace."
