In an interview for a documentary Harry & Meghan: An African Journey, Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle revealed that she was warned of British tabloids before her marriage to Harry. Speaking about the struggles of being a part of the Royal family, the Duchess said that the last year had been hard and that she had had no idea of what she would face. Speaking on the broadcast on October 20, Meghan said that she and her friends were really happy about her relationship with Harry in the beginning as she herself was very happy. Yet her British friends, on the other hand, warned her of the consequences of the marriage.

“When I first met my now-husband, my friends were really happy because I was so happy. But my British friends said to me: ‘I’m sure he’s great. But you shouldn’t do it because the British tabloids will destroy your life,’” she told the interviewer on the television channel.

The Duchess further said that at that time she was very naive and she couldn't comprehend the inference. Meghan announced that she is suing the alleged British tabloid over unlawfully publishing a private letter she sent to her estranged father, Thomas Markle. The same was reiterated by Harry who attacked the tabloids of the ruthless campaigns against Markle. Following his statement, it was alleged by Harry that two other tabloids are hacking his phone and that he is going to sue them as well.
Harry told in the broadcasted interview that the media is “into playing a game that killed my mum”.

Meghan got emotional

As seen in the interview, Meghan was teary-eyed as she was sharing her struggle particularly after the birth of their first child, Archie. The duchess said that it was something very private and very real to her. She knew that nothing was going to be easy but that everything would be fair but it seems that's the part which is really hard to reconcile. Speaking on how she's coping with all of it, Markle said that she has been telling Harry that it's not enough to just survive something but thrive and be happy.

Meghan said that she had “really tried” to adopt the “British sensibility of stiff upper lip” but thought that “what that does internally is probably damaging”.

Both she and Harry took things one day at a time, she added. Meghan also said that when people are saying things that are untrue she doesn't think anyone can possibly feel okay and that's different to scrutiny. The only good thing for her is that she has her baby and her husband and they’re the best, she concluded.

I have a family to protect: Prince Harry

Following Meghan's statements, Harry, drawing links from his past said, "And now I have a family to protect, so everything that she [Diana] went through, and what happened to her is incredibly raw every single day. And that’s not me being paranoid. That’s just me not wanting a repeat of the past."

He said that any father or husband would know that whatever he is doing will be done by them if they were in his place. He reiterated the fact that things are painful because most of the news in tabloids is untrue. But he will focus on being real, for being the people that they are, and stand up for what they believe in. The Duke also addressed his recent partition from the charity with Cambridge. He said that the reports on issues between him and his brother are untrue. They only broke away from the office because they have different paths and nothing more.

“But I love him dearly, and the majority of the stuff is created out of nothing. But, as brothers, you have good days, you have bad days,” Harry said.
