Protests took place across the UK on Wednesday in solidarity with George Floyd and the Black Lives Matter movement. In London and Manchester people "took the knee" in a symbolic act that has become synonymous with the BLM campaign. It followed a series of demonstrations and protest actions that took place over the last few weeks in the UK, US and across the globe. They were sparked by the death of Floyd in Minneapolis on May 25 after a white police officer knelt on his neck for several minutes even after he stopped moving.
