Britain’s foreign secretary on Thursday said the number of new coronavirus cases and the daily death toll were both "steadily falling", however the country was still fighting the spread of the new coronavirus.

Speaking during a Downing Street news conference on Thursday, Dominic Raab said "the virus is not beaten yet, it remains deadly and infectious"

He urged the nation to keep observing social distancing measures to avoid a possible second peak.

"If people don't follow the rules, or if we see that the eye level goes back up, we will tighten the restrictions again", he said.

For most people, the new coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks.

For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia and death.
