Rights groups flood UK streets with billboards demanding arrest of China's Chen Quanguo

Several rights groups and campaigners in London urged the government to act against the Chinese leader for Tibetan repression and Uyghur community

Several rights groups and campaigners in London recently flooded streets with billboards demanding arrest of Chen Quanguo who is secretary of Chinese Communist Party (CCP). mess on boards urged British government to act against Chinese leer for repression of Uyghurs and Tibetan communities. Chen is believed to be person behind security apparatus in Tibet and mastermind behind camps in Xinjiang, which incarcerate over a million Uyghur mirities.

Chen is a member of 19th Politburo of CCP. He is being considered for .2 position in party and refore is most likely to take control of Central ministration in future. For a long time, a number of rights groups and campaigners have been asking British government to impose sanctions on Chen.

According to ANI, a London-based human rights group, Free Tibet, has demanded UK government to hold Chen responsible for widespre abuses. organisation has urged government to d Chen’s name to global human rights sanction regime list in a bid to send a signal to Beijing that abuses against Tibetans and Uyghurs will t just be monitored, but also punished. Chen is considered to be most ruthless Chinese leer ever to have ruled Tibet and East Turkistan. He has been architect of human rights abuses for last 10 years. 

Free Tibet said, “ USA has alrey imposed sanctions on Chen, and it is time for UK to follow suit. This will set a precedent that or countries can and must follow. Wher you are in UK or elsewhere in world, we urge you to sign this petition”.

Magnitsky-style sanctions

Meanwhile, back in July UK h launched its new Magnitsky-style sanctions against human rights-abusing regimes. British government h named 49 individuals and organisations who are involved in some of “most torious human rights violations” around globe. While officials targeted individuals from Saudi Arabia, Myanmar, Russia and rth Korea, y, however, did t d senior Chinese leer in list. 

United States, on or hand, imposed Global Magnitsky Act sanctions and visa restrictions again Chen Quangua. According to sanctions, Chen and his immediate relatives are barred from entering US. He will also have US-based assets frozen.
