Rishi Sunak unveils new 50-pence 'Diversity' coin which will enter circulation next week
Rishi Sounak unveiled a new 50-pence Diversity coin in a bid to celebrate Britain’s diversity and to recognise the contributions of minority communities.

UK Chancellor Rishi Sounak, on October 17, unveiled a new 50-pence Diversity coin in a bid to celebrate Britain’s diversity and to recognise contributions of mirity communities. According to a press release, new coin was launched following discussions with ‘We Too Built Britain’ campaign. Around 2.5 million coins, with mess ‘Diversity Built Britain’ and featuring geodome, will enter general circulation next week.

new coin features geodome, which represents a community of connection and strength, with each section working toger to Builth something greater. coin marks start of a series that will cover a wider range of Britain’s ethnic mirity contributions on coins and tes in future, with British Indian spy or Inayat Khan among those in running. Sunak commissioned coin earlier this year following discussion with ‘We Too Built Britain’ campaign, which works for fair representation of mirity communities’ contributions across all walks of life.
Sunak said, “I have seen first-hand contribution made by ethnic mirity communities to Britain’s history. That is why I backed “We Too Built Britain” campaign and requested that Royal Mint introduced this coin to celebrate it”.
He added, “This coin, and rest of series, will act as a fitting tribute to very profound impact ethnic mirity communities have made on Britain, and I am grateful to Royal Mint for turning this around at record speed”.

‘Commitment to building a fairer society’
coin has been designed by Dominique Evans, who is one of UK’s foremost designers and who has previously designed coins to make VE Day, Sapphire Coronation and Jane Austen. design was inspired by Evans’ own personal experience growing up as a mixed-race woman. UK PM Boris Johnson said that her design is first in a series of coins Mint will be producing, celebrating those who have helped shape national history and culture.
As per press te, Johnson said, “I had great pleasure of welcoming Dominque to a Cabinet meeting, along with Anne Jessopp, first female Deputy Master of Mint and Blondel Cluff CEO of West India Committee and Advisor to Royal Mint. This new coin echoes government’s commitment to building a fairer society for all”.
Alongside release of 50p coins, Royal Mint and West India Committee will also issue education packs to primary schools in England and Wales, so children have opportunity to learn about se achievements. Moreover, British government will also consult with stakeholders including ‘We Too Built Britain’ and or groups representing mirity communities on mes of future coins in series.
