Storm Ciara brings strong winds and rain to UK

Trains, flights and ferries have been cancelled, and weather warnings have been issued across the UK as a storm with hurricane force winds began to affect the country on Sunday.

Trains, flights and ferries have been cancelled, and weather warnings have been issued across the UK as a storm with hurricane force winds began to affect the country on Sunday.

Storm Ciara, named by the Met Office national weather agency, was expected to bring heavy rains and winds of up to 80mph, prompting the agency to issue 22 emergency flood warnings and 149 flood watch alerts.

In Sowerby, West Yorkshire, people were seen driving through flooded streets, and shopfronts, houses and cars were seen partially submerged in water.

Police also closed streets in the town in the north of the country, while fire brigade vehicles attended to calls.
