Storm Otto: First named storm of the year to hit UK with 75mph gusts of winds and rain

There is "chance of travel disruption and high-sided vehicles could be particularly prone to disrupted plans in this set-up," Met Office announced in an update.

Parts of UK could be hit by strong 75mph gusts of winds as Storm Otto is likely to arrive in early hours of Friday, UK's Met Office warned in an visory. "A low-pressure system which will bring high winds and rain to parts of UK has been named Storm Otto by Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI)," official statement by UK government's wear service ted. Otto is first named storm to directly impact UK. Heavy downpours and cloudy wear is expected across country. 

"Sunday will see some clearer spells for a time early on, albeit with showers possible in rthwestern areas, before some more persistent rain looks to build in from rth late on Sunday," Met Office stressed in a statement carrying a storm visory for Britons. 

Large waves expected in rth Sea coast

storm, said Met Office, is predicted to affect rastern coast of England and most of Scotland, and heavy rainfall is expected across regions of impact. Met Office also activated warnings that re is  likelihood of large waves, especially on rth Sea coasts, as well as a chance of some dam to buildings and infrastructure. It vised Britons to exercise safety measures to minimize dam or loss of lives from potential disaster. “Storm Otto will bring high winds and rain to UK, with some rrn parts of Scotland and rast of England likely to get strongest gusts of wind, possibly in excess of 75mph. Warnings have been issued and could be updated as Storm Otto develops," said UK's Met Office Chief Meteorologist Andy P in a statement.

While winds and rains are expected to rav parts of UK, Denmark is expected to be hit by more severe wear conditions and speeding winds that will batter coastal areas. Last year, in February, UK was hit with storm Franklin just days after storm Eunice killed at least three people. storm caused "severe disruption" and flash flooding across rrn Ireland, England, Scotland, and wales.
