UK applauds health care workers, NHS staff

London's landmarks were lit blue on Thursday evening in support of National Health Service workers and emergency personnel.

London's landmarks were lit blue on Thursday evening in support of National Health Service workers and emergency personnel.

Landmarks like London Eye ferris wheel and Shard skyscraper were among buildings to turn British capital's skyline blue.

Healthcare workers at St Thomas' Hospital, where Prime Minister Boris Johnson is receiving treatment for COVID-19 symptoms, walked out for a few minutes to cheer for ir colleagues and or essential workers.

Londoners also came out of ir windows and front doors to applaud emergency services.

For most people, new coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks.

For some, especially older ults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia, and could le to death.

According to Johns Hopkins University, UK has 65,000 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 7,900 recorded deaths.
