UK Health Secretary announces £600 mn coronavirus package for care homes
The UK Health Secretary Matt Hancock on May 15 announced that the government will invest £600m in care homes to help its residents amid coronavirus pandemic.

United Kingdom Health Secretary Matt Hancock on May 15 anunced that government will invest £600 million in care homes to help its residents. While speaking at daily coronavirus briefing, Hancock along with chief medical officer Dr Jenny Harries and medical director of primary care for NHS England, Dr Nikki Kanani, detailed on how government intends t help care home residents. Hancock anunced that authorities will be ramping up testing of residents and carers.
Hancock said, “Many of you watching this will have a loved one in a care home, as I do, and I kw how worrying it's been”.

Hancock informed that care homes will be asked to restrict permanent and ncy staff to working in only one care home whenever possible. new funding is also aimed to be used to meet ditional costs of restricting staff to work in one care home and pay ws of those self-isolating. Furrmore, Hancock said that local authorities are also asked to conduct a daily review of care homes in ir area to ensure y have support y need with things like staffing and help with accessing PPE.

Wellbeing pack for social care staff
Health Secretary also anunced that NHS will be ensuring that each care home has a named clinical contact to provide better access to clinical vice through weekly check-ins to review ir patients and offer direct support for staff with use of equipment and medication. Hancock furr informed that a wellbeing pack for social care staff will be rolled out on new CARE app to help staff support with ir mental health, well being and to support those who have experienced a traumatic death as part of ir work.
Meanwhile, UK currently has more than 236,000 confirmed coronavirus cases and dely virus has claimed nearly 33,998 lives in country. Despite increasing number of COVID-19 cases, UK PM Boris Johnson expressed optimism and said that rate at which virus is spreing among people was below one which is outcome of general public’s herence to social distancing measures. Earlier this week, Johnson also anunced a ‘conditional plan’ to reopen country after months of lockdown.
