UK: Immunity for US envoy's wife in teen's death 'no longer pertinent'
The diplomatic immunity of the US envoy’s wife, who allegedly killed a British teenager Harry Dunn and fled to the United States, is no longer pertinent.

According to British media, UK Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab wrote a letter to family of Harry Dunn, teenr who died in fatal crash, in which he claimed that US also longer considers diplomatic immunity pertinent.
Anne Sacoolas, prime suspect
accident reportedly took place near RAF Croughton, a British military base near Oxford, on August 27, when a car collided with 19-year-old Harry Dunn’s bike. Anne Sacoolas, 42, diplomat’s wife, is prime suspect in case and police were preparing to arrest and interrogate woman but before it could happen, she left for US.

UK constantly asked for a waiver
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson earlier urged diplomat’s wife to return to UK to face investigation, ding that he will raise issue with White House if needed. Johnson was t in favour of using “ process of diplomatic immunity for this of purpose”. Though US embassy was apprehensive about call to waive diplomatic immunity.

“Any questions regarding a waiver of immunity with regard to our diplomats and ir family members overseas in a case like this receive intense attention at senior levels and are considered carefully given global impact such decisions carry,” a U.S. Embassy spokesperson h said.

Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations
As per Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, 1961, family members of diplomats living in or countries enjoy immunity from arrest in most of cases. Under Article 32 of Vienna convention, immunity can be waived by sending state and it must always be express.
“Waiver of immunity from jurisdiction in respect of civil or ministrative proceedings shall t be held to imply waiver of immunity in respect of execution of judgement, for which a separate waiver shall be necessary,” res Article 36(4).
