UK PM Johnson to be warned about 'disappointing' EU-UK post-Brexit talks

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson is expected to be briefed about spiralling post-Brexit negotiations between European Union and Britain after he returns to work on April 27 after three weeks. While British PM was battling coronavirus infection and was even hospitalised for several days, UK-EU talks began amid global health crisis. After an initial delay in setting timeline for meetings, when discussions did begin, EU’s chief negotiator, Michel Barnier called talks ‘disappointing’.
Barnier h also said that in a bid to fulfil timeline proposed by Britain, re needs to be ‘genuine progress’ in post-Brexit talks and a decision on extending 11-month transition period by June. However, UK has reportedly said that ‘limited progress’ h been me in talks expressed need to move ahe in negotiations in ‘constructive fashion’. Both sides will reportedly hold two more rounds of talks before transition period ends in December. Barnier has said that joint decision on extending period will be taken by June 30.

According to international media reports, Johnson is expected to urge European commission president, Ursula von der Leyen and or leers of EU nations to pay attention to Britain’s side of demands in negotiations. While some reports have suggested that EU-UK talks are doomed to fail, sources of a British media suggest British officials would require to think of a ‘rescue’ over next fortnight. UK is set to leave EU single market and customs union at end of 2020. After transition period ends, UK will be eligible to EU tariffs if both sides do t strike a deal.

UK warns EU to leave talks
Downing Street has alrey said that it would leave talks in June unless re is a “bro outline” of a deal. According to an official release by British government setting out mandate for its future relationship with EU and its negotiations, London would “move away” from discussions of a tre accord after working in a “speedy and determined fashion”. UK PM's government is hoping for a 'free-tre' agreement with 27-nation-bloc to be “rapidly finalised by September”.
