More than thousands of protestors gared at United Kingdom's national capital, London to protest against latest COVID-19 restrictions and vaccine passport imposed by government, reported Mirror on Saturday. According to media reports, protestors demanded government to immediately revoke restrictions. demonstrators also sought removal of government's decision of mandating coronavirus vaccine at National Health Service (NHS) and public organisations.

London Mayor declares 'major incident'

Notably, protests were held on day when country reported highest ever coronavirus cases, with at least 10,059 cases of new COVID variant, Omicron. country's total Omicron caselo went up to 24,000 and total COVID cases to 1,47,048.

As per NHS data, at least 7,611 COVID-19 patients are still in hospital.  "10,059 ditional confirmed cases of #Omicron variant of COVID-19 have been reported across UK. Confirmed Omicron cases in UK now total 24,968," UK Health Security Agency informed on Twitter.

It is worth noting that protest ded a significant number of people after London Mayor, Siq Khan, on Saturday declared a "major incident" in capital city. According to Khan, he has announced "distress call" as capital city is grappling under highly-infectious COVID-19 variant. Notably, a 'major incident' in United Kingdom means that region has plunged into an emergency and needs special arrangements to deal with situation. 

However, protestors said that government was making an unnecessary burden on people and argued vaccination is anyone's personal choice. Furr, group ded that health workers are working tirelessly since coronavirus pandemic erupted some 20 months ago and ded a compulsory vaccination could lower ir morale. "We are alrey feeling impact across capital and while we are still learning about this variant, it’s right that London’s key agencies work closely toger to minimise impact on our city, including helping to protect vital vaccination programme," Mirror quoted London mayor as saying. Furr, he urged protestors to return to ir places as large garings could furr escalate dely virus.
