Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic on Saturday wished US President-elect Joe Biden success following his election victory but said it would have been "better for Serbia" had Donald Trump held onto the White House. Speaking after visiting the building site of the new hospital in Belgrade, Vucic said he would thank Trump and his administration "for everything we did together".
"I would be easier for us if Trump have won. Trump did not participate in bombing and creation of Kosovo. It will be harder for us," he said. Reaction to Biden's victory also came in from Ukraine, where residents of the capital Kyiv were unsure of the full impact the change in US adminstration would have.
But Ukrainian political expert Petro Burkovskiy said President Volodymyr Zelenskiy's government might have to alter its security policy and its dealings with Washington. Ukraine was central to Trump’s impeachment in 2019 and attempts by the Trump campaign to paint Biden and his family as corrupt ahead of this week's vote.
