UN agency fund seeks big budget boost to tackle climate fallout

Major spending boost is needed to bolster agriculture and fight against hunger, poverty and or consequences of climate change, he of UN International Fund for Agricultural development told international media. Gilbert Houngbo, president of  International Fund for Agriculture Development IF said on Tuesday that organisation is seeking a boost of a US $1.7bil from member states to cover between 2022 and 2024. He ded that ncy’s needs have considerably risen with an increase in hunger around world.

IF will soon launch an ‘exceptional’ appeal to member states due to growing challenges linked to climate change, he ded in a telephone interview to international media. He furr elaborated on amount of help UN ncy would get with a 54 % jump in budget. appeal is scheduled to be me at fund’s board meeting in Rome later this week.

Meanwhile, World Bank estimates that climate change could push more than 100 million people into poverty, with half of m due to its impact on agriculture such as inequate rain and lower yields. Houngbo also called for shifting some of climate change funding which overwhelmingly goes towards reduction in pollution.
