UN inks agreement with Taliban to establish 4,000 schools in Afghanistan

UNICEF has struck a deal with Afghanistan based terror group Taliban to set up schools inside their controlled area. the UN agency aims to set up 4000 schools.

UNICEF has struck a deal with Afghanistan-based terror group Taliban to set up schools inside ir controlled area. Under deal, UN ncy aims to set up as many as 4,000 schools across war torn country and lift over 15 million people from poverty and illiteracy. Taliban, over years, has destroyed hundreds of schools as part of ir war against western education.

Although Taliban is strictly opposed to female education, agreement covers providing equate education to both boys and girls and would begin by commencing classes for just first three gres of primary school, Telegraph reported.  It also seeks establishment of community-based schools, which would be paid for Global Partnership for Education, backed by finds from UK and US.

Charities and aid groups have long cut local deals to gain access to specific Taliban-controlled areas, but UNICEF agreement is thought to be first nationwide education arrangement with insurgents' political office, located in Doha.  With deal, UNICEF opined it hoped agreement would reach more than 120,000 young children in a country where an estimated 3.7 million are out-of-school, three-fifths of m girls.

Explosion rocks Kabul

Even with ongoing diplomatic talks between Taliban and Afghanistan, attacks have t scared down.Bombing and shooting in Afghanistan’s capital city Kabul on Tuesday, December 15, killed Deputy Goverr of Kabul, Mohibullah Mohammi, and his secretary. Afghan interior ministry spokesman, Tariq Arian said that deputy provincial goverr was killed with his secretary while two of his bodyguards have been bly wounded. Mohibi was target of attack as a sticky bomb was attached to his vehicle that led to this blast.

As per reports by ANI, militant group has claimed responsibility for explosion. Chairman of High Council for National Reconciliation, Abdullah Abdullah, condemned attack. Special presidential envoy and state minister for human rights, Sima Samar also expressed her sorrow as she wrote, “Unfortunately ar attack today, people are tired of terrorist attacks every day.
