UN refugee chief says Ethiopia conflict far from over as Eritrean migrant remain at risk
UNHCR chief has warned that the conflict in Ethiopia is far from over despite the federal forces of PM Abiy Ahmed calling an end to their military offensive.

United Nations refugee chief Filippo Grandi has warned that conflict in Ethiopia is far from over despite federal forces of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed calling an end to ir military offensive. Grandi said that he is very concerned about fate of nearly 1,00,000 Eritrean refugees, who live in refugee camps near Tigray-Eritrea border. This comes after reports of Eritrean refugees being abducted by Eritrean armed forces working at behest of Ethiopian army emerged.

Grandi has urged bel Peace Prize-winning Prime Minister of Ethiopia to take stock of situation and has said if reports are true n it would be a "major violation of international rms". Eritrean refugees have been living in camps in Shire, which is located in conflict zone of Tigray, and media reports suggest that at least 6,000 of m have been abducted.
Eritrea has been allegedly involved in ongoing conflict between Ethiopia's central government and regional Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) party.

Meanwhile, conflict has created a refugee crisis of its own as mirity Tigray people have been forced to flee to neighbouring Sudan because of military offensive launched by central forces.

immediate conflict in region was sparked after ruling TPLF party, a mirity party at centre but a strong and powerful group in region, allegedly attacked a military base of federal forces on vember 4 following which Ahmed's government launched a military offensive.
Relations between TPLF and government of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed h started straining after latter anunced reforms to end ethnic federalism in country. Ahmed dissolved Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front, which h ruled country for 30 years, and created a new Prosperity Party by merging all regional parties. creation of Prosperity Party meant a reduction of TPLF's influence at federal level, which prompted powerful regional organisation to refuse to join party.

relations took a drastic hit after TPLF party held parliamentary elections in September despite central government's decision to postpone all polls in country due to COVID-19 concerns.
